Attackers who can create or manipulate symlinks in a path component of the scanned tree can replace a symlink with a directory entry pointing outside the module root between the lstat() call and the subsequent opendir() call, exposing files beyond the intended root in both daemon-mode and non-daemon sender-side scanning.",

"details": "We are not fixing this on this platform because there is no self-contained fix to take. Upstream addressed it by replacing the program's path handling wholesale in a later release and re-pointing every call site at it; importing that would rewrite every file-creation path in the sending and receiving code, the highest-risk area of the program. The flaw needs a local attacker to race a parent directory into a symlink between the file list being built and the directory being read, or a symlinked directory inside a module while symlink-following is requested. A higher-privileged sender then lists a directory outside the tree and copies its entry names and metadata. To stay safe, keep the daemon chroot option on — it is the default — and refuse the copy-links, copy-dirlinks and copy-unsafe-links options.",
